Spelling questions in BCS test your ability to identify the correctly spelled word from four options, or to spot the misspelled word. The English language borrows from Latin, Greek, French, and German, making spelling irregular and unpredictable. However, BCS examiners favor certain words that students commonly misspell — particularly words with double letters, silent letters, or unusual letter combinations. Commonly confused words test whether you know the difference between similar-sounding words (homophones) or similar-looking words.
