Rule 1: Subject-এর number ও person অনুযায়ী verb বসে।

• He plays (singular). They play (plural).

Rule 2: Two subjects joined by "and" → plural verb

• "Tom and Jerry are friends."
• Exception: Same person/thing → singular: "Bread and butter is my breakfast."

Rule 3: Either...or / Neither...nor → verb agrees with nearer subject

• "Neither he nor his friends were there."
• "Neither his friends nor he was there."

Rule 4: After modal verbs (can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must) → base form

• He can swim. She must go.

Rule 5: After "to" → base form (infinitive)

• He wants to play. She decided to go.

Rule 6: After preposition (in, of, for, by, without, before, after) → V-ing (gerund)

• He is fond of reading. Without working, you cannot succeed.

Rule 7: "Let" / "make" / "have" (causative) + object + base form

• Let him go. She made me cry. I had him fix it.

Rule 8: "get" + object + V3 (past participle)

• I got my car repaired.

Rule 9: After "had better / would rather / would sooner" → base form

• You had better go. I would rather die than beg.

Rule 10: After "it is time / it is high time" → past tense

• It is time you left. It is high time we started.

Rule 11: "Lest...should" → should + base form

• "Walk fast lest you should miss the train."

Rule 12: "As if / as though" → past tense (subjunctive)

• "He talks as if he knew everything."
• "He behaves as if he were the boss."

Rule 13: After "to be + accustomed to / used to / look forward to / with a view to / addicted to" → V-ing

• He is accustomed to getting up early.
• I look forward to hearing from you.

Rule 14: "Used to" (habit) → base form

• He used to play cricket.

Rule 15: After "need/dare" (as main verb) → to + V1

• He needs to study. He doesn't dare to speak.

Rule 16: "No sooner had...than" / "Scarcely had...when" → Past Perfect

• "No sooner had I reached than it started raining."

Rule 17: Each, every, everyone, everybody, everything → singular verb

• Every student has a book.

Rule 18: "One of the + plural noun + singular verb"

• "One of the boys was absent."

Rule 19: Uncountable nouns → singular verb

• "The news is good." "Mathematics is difficult."

Rule 20: "The number of → singular" vs "A number of → plural"

• "The number of students is 50."
• "A number of students are absent."
